One of the most common New Year’s Resolutions that Americans make is to lose weight in the coming year. A lot of people struggle with weight loss because they don’t have a good plan or strategy.

Avoid weight-loss shakes, bars and other foods. These things are full of calories and do not fill you like real foods do. Instead you’re going to start to get hungry and will want more food. A lot of these products also contain a lot of sugar, which can increase blood sugar.

When you are on the telephone, turn this time into extra workout time. Rather than sitting down as you talk, stand up and walk around while you are on your phone. It is not necessary to do calisthenics. Just walking around the room and doing a few chores will burn some extra calories and can have an effect on the shape of your body over time.

Make sure you are eating enough calories each day to make sure you are losing weight the proper way. Diets that starve you are extremely harmful. One reason this happens is that because without enough caloric intake, the human body goes into starvation mode and saves fat instead of burning it. This type of “diet” also leads to binge eating and a sure way to gain the weight back quickly once you do resume normal eating.

It is hard to find someone who does not love the taste of french fries. They can be a problem for anyone trying to lose weight. However, you can have your french fries and still not sabotage your diet by baking instead of frying. After slicing potatoes into 1/2″ strips, place in a bowl along with 1T of canola oil. Sprinkle with pepper, salt and other seasonings of your choice. Arrange the fries on a roaster pan or cookie sheet in just one layer and bake at 400 degrees in your oven for 30 minutes. Use a spatula to loosen any caked-on fries, turn them over, then bake them for another half hour. These can be eaten with ketchup just like French fries, but you won’t miss the deep-fried calories.
